How to transport a tiered wedding cake.
Transporting a wedding cake long distance.
This is an aspect that i researched planned and contemplated a great deal before i offered a french wedding cake service from my uk cake studio.
Do all the decorating prior to stacking the tiers.
Get a box that is exactly the size of the base of the cake board.
I regularly transport wedding cakes over quite long distances in the uk and so am well equipped for long distance deliveries but journey times are doubled or tripled by crossing the channel.
Then when you are ready to move you then remove the cake from the fridge and place it in a refrigerated box.
Tiered wedding cakes should be transported in a box.
If you are transporting a smaller cake over long distances get a sturdy box to put the cake in.
Cakes should be kept cool to prevent melting.
Properly dowel the cake tiers.
Once you reach the venue you can assemble the wedding cake properly.
This will keep it from sliding around in the box.
Instead place your cake on a flat level surface such as in the trunk of the car.
Never keep the cake boxes on the seat of the vehicle while transporting.
Here is what i do for long distance deliveries.
If the wedding cake you intend to transport in hot weather is any of the above then it needs to be refrigerated.
The issue of transporting a cake in hot weather would mostly affect buttercream or whipped cream cakes.
The board or plate that the cake is on should be touching the sides of the box so that it does not slide around inside as you travel.
Keep temperature inside and outside the car in mind.
Stack the tiers of your cake at home.
An important part of cake transportation is a cake box.
As long as you have a good support system you should have no problem stacking your 3 tier wedding cake and transporting it.
I ve said this before but moving boxes from home depot make the best wedding cake boxes.
For added stability use a non skid mat or even that yoga mat in your trunk to prevent the boxes from sliding around.
The seats are not level and there is a chance of the boxes shifting thus ruining the cake inside.
They re less than 2 and can support the weight of a wedding cake.
Chill the cake for 24 hours.
Put the boxes on a foam mat which in turn is placed on a flat surface.
